Business Updates: New place and the next 12 months

Time for a state of the business update!  It's been a year since I started Aril Consulting.  Last month I moved to Asheville, North Carolina with my partner, who is enrolled in a six-month herbalism apprenticeship here.  I'm grateful for the opportunity to be here for a while, especially since one of my clients, Kleiwerks International, is headquartered here. Asheville is a also a great place to continue my natural building studies.

A year ago I started with an idea--not a unique one--to provide flexible, nurturing, fundraising and non-profit management consulting to organizations that were seeking my services.  I have to say--I've learned a lot over the year and the significance of ARIL explains it.  I love the parallel between the purpose of the business and my own struggles.

Aril is about abundance.  And as anyone who has tried to make it on their own, I've worried about money, cash flow, crossing my fingers that nothing will happen while I don't have health insurance.  Just like the organizations I work with, I believe deep down that I can do it, that there is enough and abundance will flow.

In my second year, I am now facing abundance.  There are tremendous opportunities to do heart-driven work with amazing organizations.  I'm fortunate to be in the mix.  Now I'm thinking about how to expand and take on more work.  Thanks to everyone who has believed in me and in turn, to the thousands who believe in the organizations I work with.

With gratitude,
Val

Launching the Blog

I kept a blog while traveling for 8 months on my personal site - www.valeriecosta.com.  Writing regularly helped me make sense of my experiences and hone my writing skills.  I was surprised to find that I had a small following.

This is what I'm calling the Abundance Blog.  When I reflect on why I keep doing this work -- specifically fundraising - I've realized it's because I believe that there is enough.  There is abundance.  It's really a question of how resources are being used and how to reallocate them.

Having grown up fairly cynical and in the Northeast (this makes sense to me - perhaps others understand?), I have not realized and embraced the concept of abundance until lately.  I have a greater recognition of my own privilege and personal abundance, but I also have seen how intention and right action lead to abundance.  Open your heart and your arms and there's a whole gift economy out there. Be real, be yourself, and be open to the possibilities.
